History

St. Anthony’s School was founded by career educators with a passion for nurturing young minds. It has since evolved into a beautiful community.

Years spent educating

St. Anthony’s School was founded by Ms. Eveline Gitumbi, a gifted teacher and passionate advocate for holistic education. The school was conceived on the belief that if learners received a well-rounded education—nurturing the mind, body, and spirit, while exploring established guidelines to their fullest—they would grow into fair-minded, well-grounded, and globally exposed citizens.

Over the years, the school has blossomed into a community of like-minded educators, learners, and families. St. Anthony’s has continually embraced pedagogical innovation, establishing premiere practices that make learning more interactive, enriching, and expansive. The happiness of students was recognized early on as essential to their success, and a culture of mutual respect has always defined the relationships between teachers and learners.

In 2020, the school experienced a financial crisis. Following a period of declining enrolment and increased internal tensions, finances became critical and the possibility of closure loomed large.

Despite these difficulties—and in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic—the school managed to remain open. In fact, the post-2020 period became a moment of renewal—marked by bold decisions, including the relocation of our campus to its highland setting in Kikuyu, which has since inspired a fresh sense of ambition and growth.

The most significant transformation has been in curriculum. The transition from the 8-4-4 system to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and now the Competency-Based Education (CBE) framework has not been without challenges. Yet St. Anthony’s has consistently recognized the strength of these curricula. Beyond the letter of the curriculum, the school has embraced the spirit behind it—standards that inspire learners to be creative, critical thinkers, and lifelong learners.

The school has continued to develop and innovate. Significant investment has already transformed our campus into a hub for 21st-century learning, with further improvements underway. As we look ahead, the Japanese philosophy of Kaizen—the idea of a “1% improvement daily”—is becoming a guiding principle, ensuring that growth remains steady, sustainable, and meaningful.

Despite the valleys on our path, one thing remains certain: the spirit of St. Anthony—to always pursue excellence—has kept us moving forward. This spirit flows through our entire community and finds its truest expression in our school motto: “Be All You Can Be!”
